The story of Mimate
A PASSIONATE STORY
Being passionate about South American culture and drinking mate for years, it was in 2019 that I realized that this drink, widely consumed around the world, is still too little known in France, so I decided to launch into Mimate adventure to facilitate the discovery of this infusion with multiple benefits.
Hello friends ! My name is Damien and I am the founder of Mimate.
In France, everyone knows coffee and tea, of course, but what about mate? This drink which is nevertheless positioned in 3rd place among the most consumed infusions in the world?
This is the question I asked myself one morning while propping my bombilla against the pile of Argentine mate leaves in my gourd.
“No one knows about mate around me, why not create a French mate brand, with a range of fruity mate, unique in France?”
I am starting to develop a first version of the site, contact Argentinian producers, think about several recipes...
Mimate was born!
SEARCH FOR THE PERFECT MATÉ
2019 - 2020
In order to build the foundations of Mimaté we We are actively working to create and develop our unique range of mate in France.
To do this, we interact with several Argentinian and Brazilian growers, specialists in traditional mate. Our goal was to find the perfect mate that was accessible to everyone.
We knew we had to find a mate that was neither too strong nor too bitter but kept the benefits and the very particular taste of yerba mate.
Why did we know this? Well, because since I started drinking mate, a lot of friends wanted to taste it and very often it was the same comments that came up: “your stuff is super strong!”, “It looks like tea but more bitter” or even “it’s too dusty, it’s going through the straw”.
After several months of searching, we finally found the perfect mate!
Green mate: neither too strong nor too bitter, composed of 98% yerba leaves and 0% sticks and dust.
A green mate from fair trade and 100% natural cultivation: Bingo!
CREATION OF A UNIQUE MATE
2020-2021
Following our research, we are setting up several collaborations with small South American growers.
Over the months and meetings, we managed to create a complete range of 9 mates with different tastes.
We are carrying out some tests by setting up tasting stands for our mates everywhere around Bordeaux.
The feedback is very positive, our mates are appreciated and the fruity side of some of our yerba mate appeals to a lot of people on the stands, we have finally found the right formula!

In parallel with our search for the perfect mate, we are gradually launching several unique accessories to allow you to discover mate in different ways.
Traditionally or as an infusion, with Mimaté you can experience mate in different ways, depending on your desires.
From traditional discovery kits with calabash and bombilla, to the infusion bottle which allows you to prepare your mate in just a few seconds and sip it anywhere!
